My thoughs on the new Dark Angels models.

I been watching the new models for the DA. I might not buy them because the army hasn't appealed to me yet and after the new landspeeder, only the flyer was interesting but the the chapel on top I didn't like it.  however today I saw the other variant and my mind flew with blue strikes, my ultramarines would love to have it.

I don't like it.

I Love it.

they are from the same kit. blue instead of black on I take 4 to go.

Reviewing the actual cost of entry to wh40k, Space marine version

After living with the actual prices for a while I got thinking about the money needed to field your first army, on a budget I m not talking about a winning list here just a playable one, mostly because not all players think about that when they are new, my thinking goes more on the boxes or blisters needed when you don't have or don't like the introductory box set (]remember AOBR is going out, and no everyone will want the new one) For that you will need at least the codex, 1 HQ and troops.

Final day STC showcase week

Here we are on the final day of the showcase week, I saved for the last my predator, here the change was less dramatic as you can see when comparing the past

With the present

As in the previous days the few enhancements were done freehand and I satisfied with the fact that they look good even the checkers.

lets see what more I will have for the next showcase.

Day two STC showcase week

This week I will post about the little painting retouching I did during holy week on my STC.

This day is the turn for my Razorback

once more it has been on a tabletop painted level for about a year as you can see

DSC00012

nothing to write home about, but now I'm more proud of it, I did more freehand effects, the same mud effect and the exhaust effect.

the Ultramarines symbol is totally freehand following Sthaly’s advice, more easy said than done but good enough

I hope you like it and stay tuned for the whirlwind.

Keeping on the gaming

After seeing the enthusiasm generated by the last tournament I’ve been thinking about sponsoring another one this year, mostly to incentivize the new players, and since I found the original prize for the last tournament plus some few other things I want to hear if you would like it , if yes what ideas would you do like to add to have a new and improved tournament.

Here are my ideas so far

this round maybe for a nominal fee so we can purchase some things from pactare to include as prizes.

I would like to use stratagems and spearhead rules, what do you think?

we can have one tournament with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place or 2 tournament with prize for the first prize in each.

in the event of 2 tournaments we can go for a lower nominal fee in each or a higher one for a better prize in the second round.

those are my current musings, what would you put on the table.

Musings for the new tournament rules

Here I will start to compile new rules for the tournament, the ideas are general  but It will lead me to the final rules that will integrate into a campaign for the supremacy on pl3-40:

First the obvious, I want to create a map to  keep track of all the gains

as we increment the points value the result of the battles will give you benefits or eliminate disadvantages.

I will use some stratagems like terrain features that will be revealed after deployment that will grant a boom or a blast and you wont know until is too late.

in brief I want to have a rich colored campaign that goes along the tournaments. so lets see how it goes.

How do you read your codex?

I just got my hands on my copy of the Necron Codex, DSC00025and from the experience of reading I realized that my pattern to read codices, First I read the story, then I view the minis and lastly I read the rules.  After realizing that I wondered how others do it and wanted to ask, with that in mind I ask you in the pool what you do first. You know I'm an inquisitive guy. ok lets see your answers..

A creepy feeling is growing in me

Lately I have been reviewing my stuff ad reading more and more about how GW is becoming an evil monster ready to suck on the blood of new players, I usually dismiss the rants since  I care to collect mostly and their minis are super and are just getting better, but even that doesn’t feel proper all the time, and now is one of those times when I let my turmoil be expressed because I really want to hear what you think.
I regret that while much of the fluff material on the codices is getting better it is also true that they are using they color section that used to be packed with good minis and how to paint them to just a gallery of minis.

Other place I can point my finger for my feeling is the site, not so much ago if I need a hobby article but didn’t  knew where to find it I just used the internal search engine, now that engine is just returning models I can buy, how hobby friendly is that, I might be missing the boat on configuration for my search but there used to be an option to separate purchasing searches from articles.

I know that I can keep into wh40k because their history and minis are the best and I simply love them, but I understand that it is something that can be easily ruined, my hope is that it is not the case and we have overly priced minis for a while (they are great after all, even if this is a non essential product).
After taking all of that of my heart I would like what you think on the topic.

A theory on miniature design

Hello, I want to expand the post from the TemplarVanquish site about the better dressed bad guys, a long time ago in a talk with an old friend of mine, we touched the subject, he told in that no many people likes to be the bad ones because the good one alwas wins or so we were taught, that is a problem when you have a competitive game, for is easy to be the good ones but not so much for the opposite force.

so how to get an opponent, you have some options but what I have found so far is that the most designers use beauty and power to overcome that.

For example in space hulk the bad ones have easier rules and better models
if you put attention youll find more examples like when you compare WHFB knights:

As you can see the chaos models have more detail that the Bretonnians. and that reinforce the beauty aspect for the visual aspect is key when you are in the miniature business, since is what makes or brakes a line don't you agree.

Now I would like to hear your opinions.
