My second Riptide is almost painted up.

Today I finally progressed my riptide to an almost done status, I like it a bit more than my first one as for this I painted the model in parts and that allowed me greater control on the small details, and I like it a lot.

First the various parts ready for the assembly.

Then the difficult part of possing the modell, I tested some positions with bluetac but I needed  to do it with out any help.

Here I had the legs already glued sadly no pictures of the dificult possing steps
Next the model already possed and using one of the heads and the particularly good Ion cannon

Now with the burst cannon and the other head

My two Riptides together the first one ended up being to inclined to the front

another location for the SMS, to me the best option for a secondary rule.

Next post will feature the batte damage I plan to do him, but it is already ready for battle along his partner.

until next post bye.

Second Riptide WIP progress report

Hi, Today I decided to work a bit on my second Riptide, I started to apply black on some areas after the white has been done, after doing so I kept on with some blue, I'm happy how it is getting done. Before me knowing it I have done one of the drones and then the other.

too much work for my brush today :D

Step by step for the base of my second riptide xv104

I have always belived that the base is a real important part of the models we work with, however my budget hasnt allowed me the pleasure of resin bases like those you will find on the net, that hasnt stopped me from trying my best, this time is no expection and I did a  base for my second riptide, a simpler one than the previous but a base I like a lot.

First I began by colecting the materials:

  • a small stone,
  • slate pieces,
  • piece of resin mold overcast (from my Forge World Crisis Suit - not necesary)
  • piece of styrofoam
  •  some small resin pieces on the 40k basing kit,
  • fine sand
and tools:
  • PVA glue
  • Super glue
  • Hobby knife
Instructions:
I shaped the styrofoam in a more or less round disc and trimmed the edges into a wedge
Then glued the styrofoam at the center with PVA Glue and then used the pva to glue the rock, the resin and slate pieces, once they where placed I grabbed a spry can of paint and pressed the trigger on a small circle that melted the stirofoam and let it dry for a while, for a more specific how to you can check the +Teri Litorco  video on Terrain Part 1

After that I covered the surface of the base with PVA glue, I made sure to cover the styrofoam that remained after the melting process was completed, it is critical as it will prevent more melting.

Next the sand, I just srpinkled a lot of it on the glue, after a while I turned on its side and tapped a bit (strong) so it the one that wasnt glued just falled off.

When I was happy wit the result I let it dry for 24hrs to be sure all the PVA was properly dry and then sprayed black, for terrain I like the muted tones it gives, way better than other colors.

Painting

the last stage was the painting: I started by drybrushing scorched earth but any dark brown will do, after that I drybrushed vomit brown
then I drybrushed graveyard earth  and finally a bit of bleached bone

I left the center of the crater mostly black and then I started to drybrush a dark grey on the stones and th ceter of the crater only, and started to pick some details like the spent cartridges with some brass and the chaos helmet, on the tubes I used screaming bell and astronomican grey on the concrete slabs, when that dried I used a wash of ogryn flesh on the slabs  and somo stones followed by a bit of devlan mud. I also  glued some static grass and painted some green here and there.

while it dried I painted the gem on the cross at the base

to finish my base I painted the astronomican grey on the rim and followed with skull white which is the color code for my tau. So here is the end result wich will have a pretty  Riptide in the short term feature.

Hope you like this brief step by step, until next time.

My second Riptide is in the oven.

Hi, I been slowly working on my recently received riptide, so far I have taken some bad pictures of some of the magnets that I been using. right now I have two questions to solve, what pose do I want? And should I do the cabin a la Dave Tailor? the last one is the more difficult to do as I'm no modeler by any stretch of the imagination but the challenge is alluring, ohh, what should I do, meanwhile for the first question I have partially answered as I decided to have a right arm shield and a left arm cannon. today I will  do more work as I'm planning on the base, (I do my bases separately of the models and always are army themed).

lets see the pictures then:

Touching up my Crisis

This weekend I decided to do some touch up on my Crisis units, as some f you may be aware my schema is White with some Dark Blue and I like it a lot but is too white for a battlefield, and while I don’t like to do  a full weathered army I do want some weathering.

the last picture is one of the crisis with the spare Riptide head, it looks great, better than the stock one.

Additionally I decided that my original built for my Broadside Shas’vre and really loved the pose of the new Broadsides so I chopped parts and managed a pose I think is similar to the new kit.

Here are some family photos.

Just dont look at the elves, they photo bombed the family reunion.

MAD TAU Suits list mussings

Hi every one, I have a deep love for Riptide, I love the model so much that even when I don’t have the money I got a second one, but after reading the new Data slate I must confess that a wild list has come to my mind, let’s see how many suits would fit not how good it would be:

First I would take the Farsight supplement as core for the following list:

Main Detachment
HQ the Riptide Commander
Troops: 2xCrisis suits (3 units each)

Elites 3 Riptides with the Earth caste equipment
Then is how much Riptide power we can fit no if it is a sane list
Heavy: 3 xv107

Data Slate:
1 Riptide
6 Broadsides

That is not including the Tau as Allied to add another riptide to avoid using the fire warriors

I’m not even caring to look the points on that list as I know first I would be broken just from the normal Riptides then the Data slate and to finish with the FW stuff, really nuts, but that list in a Third sphere expansion scenario would be so appropriated to fight endless tides of Guardsmen, more of a narrative than a competitive scenario.

What do you think?

Other remembrance of battle past

Tomorrow I will have a battle day with as many 2000 battles I can squeeze in the 8 hour day as possible but first I wanted to share few pictures of the battles I played the last time I had a battle day.

the first battle was against tyranids I lost that battle but it was good one, it was hard to say which way it will take until the last turn when the numeric superiority of MC helped a lot.

The following battle was against necrons, lucky for my my opponent used the tomb blades to try to eliminate my too individual broadsides they were close but separated units and that mean that a lot of his shot even if hit the mark didn't damaged as much as expected, that meant that he lost a 5 model unit in the retaliatory fire, pretty good shooting, next his HQ was fired upon by the Overcharged Riptide to great effect. it was a really fast game but good too.

The last game I lost it because my previous dice didn't helped a lot against Chaos, also I let my opponent to place a bastion with a Quad gun that really tipped the balance in his favor but I liked the game a lot.

Lets see how tomorrow's play out. I will try to take as many pictures. that is the last time I use my tau before receiving my second Riptide, im already drooling with the possibilities.... until next time.
