Other remembrance of battle past

Tomorrow I will have a battle day with as many 2000 battles I can squeeze in the 8 hour day as possible but first I wanted to share few pictures of the battles I played the last time I had a battle day.

the first battle was against tyranids I lost that battle but it was good one, it was hard to say which way it will take until the last turn when the numeric superiority of MC helped a lot.

The following battle was against necrons, lucky for my my opponent used the tomb blades to try to eliminate my too individual broadsides they were close but separated units and that mean that a lot of his shot even if hit the mark didn't damaged as much as expected, that meant that he lost a 5 model unit in the retaliatory fire, pretty good shooting, next his HQ was fired upon by the Overcharged Riptide to great effect. it was a really fast game but good too.

The last game I lost it because my previous dice didn't helped a lot against Chaos, also I let my opponent to place a bastion with a Quad gun that really tipped the balance in his favor but I liked the game a lot.

Lets see how tomorrow's play out. I will try to take as many pictures. that is the last time I use my tau before receiving my second Riptide, im already drooling with the possibilities.... until next time.

Initial clashes at PL3-40

My revered master I bring you dire news…
we received reports from  different patrols that on 20120218  some forces  converged at pl3-40 a recently rediscovered planet with valuable resources and at the same time very apt to sustain life, so apt that when the first Space marine landed they found a recently hatched menace from the Tyranids, since no further reports where received a nearby Ultramarine frigate let an small Planet tutorialcompletedpatrol drop on different coordinates soon after that news of heavy fighting against Orks reached the frigate so a new temporary base was setup, while the base was being set up, reports of two more frigates came in one from the blood angels and the other from another chapter that didn’t broadcasted its Id codes, since the first concern was to protect the base from a tyranid infestation the reports wasn’t followed trough, only time will tell if that was a wise decision but already the astropath is warning of dire consequences because of that.
from radio chatter received it has been gleaned that the Blood Angels encountered some kind of alien menaceIMG_20120218_124137 not related to the Tyranids, but little of who was heard, so far the Ultramarine base is setting a nice base to protect the incoming colonizers that the adeptus administratum should be getting ready to send any year now.
So far everything is calm but we suspect that is but the prelude to something more sinister, we already hear that some vile eldar are in the vicinity of the system, and my fears are that as soon as we can send on obit skull probe we might find evidence of more forces preparing to make a stand on that planet, we hope to have an elaborated map for the next meting my lord.
No I depart until that fateful time comes my liege.

This week update

Today, Hellboy and I got together to play a bit, since he wanted to play with his Tyranids but he had so few we decided to play Kill Team fro the battle mission book. We managed to cram 2 games at 250pts in 1 hour plus  another 20 minutes for table setups, overall a great afternoon.  Hellboy won 1 and the I other.

From the game I got inspiration for a challenge to Hellboy, I have in my posesion 3 tyranid Warriors that could end up being better in the hands of him so I challenged hin to the following:
I will sell him the tyranids a retail price (they are already assembled and painted) If he keeps his armies as they are
A 10$ discount if all his minis are black primed by next week
another $10 discount if in 2 weeks all have the bone carapace painted
and if they have a base color in their skin on top of all of the previous then the warriors  are free.

I hope Hellboy manages to achieve the challenge
here are today's pictures:

So far until next time.

Sunday afternoon report.

Today Ashi and Reingard got together to do some head smashing, today we used all around defense but due to time constrains we didn't finished but I learnt something from what we played

First that ork pain boyz are the most effective defense since the prevent a lot of that usual damage Nobz take.

Second that ork mobz with properly armed Nobz are more powerful even if they are smaller..

sadly no pictures this time.

A New round of head bashing.

This sunday we got together to play again and since i have a new shiny battle mission book we choose to play blitzkrieg from the ork missions. at 1200 points,  on our portable 6 by 2 1/2 feet battlefield.  (yeah we now that we need more but plans are underway to spice a bit more our stuff. with another table so we have 6 by 5 feet)

Orks won the initiative and deployed first after that we placed the 3 objectives, Ashi played orks, Hellboy space marines and i was the referee and sales pitch for we had an unusual  amount of admirers all impressed by the fact that our models are hand painted..

armies are as follows
SM
2 tac squads
1Dev squad
1 bike squad
1 dread
 1 assault squad
1 land speeder squad
1 captain in terminator armour
for about 1200 points with upgrades (I might be forgetting 1 tact)

Orks
several mobs (like 6 ) of ork boyz
1 warbikerz mob
1 Nobz mob
2 trucks
3 defkoptas
1 warbozz
againg roughly for 1200 points with the proper upgrades like heavy armour for the nobz.

First Turn
Ashi tried unsuccessfully top deploy his trucks and moved forward the bikes and defkoptas nothing , then Hellboy moved his troops but failed to move further his assault squad.

Second Turn
Ashi brought his trucks into play and pushed forward his bikes and defkoptas, after that shooted against the SM assault squd and (ahem) assaulted it.  ashi managed to destroy the weapon from one of the land speeder
Hellboy failed to counter ashi's moves by moving his bikes in another direction and leaving his chaps alone. his dread come into play but was not properly used

Third turn
Ashi brought more reserves into play and procedeed to push his attack for the fartest objective using his warbikes as bait  aftter removing with them the last assault marine.
Hellboy brought more reserves into play  (2 tac squads ) and using everything at his disposal removed the warbikerz (I think it was a bad move since it failed to contain the real threat that was pushing for his objective) int the assault the dread lost one arm

Fourth turn
Ashi pushed and won control of all the objectives removing the other arm from the dread (here we have an open question what happens when a walker lose all arms?  it is destroyed or not?) and pushing even further.
here Hellboy really used properly his army shooting with glee at the mob in the near objective and destroying the truk and leaving only the nob but he had a lot of luck since he kept moving his troops in unplanned moves and give ashi free cover saves that help  a lot the orks.

Fifth turn
ashi keep pushing his foot loggers to the front so he could recover the lost ground on the far front managed to destroy the land speeder
hellboy keep shooting and managed to contest the middle point objective but it was not to last. and won control of the one in his side of the table.

In this turn is worth mentioning that one lucky shoot from the dev squad managed to destroy ashi's hope to control the objective in the SM side of the table.

look the fatefull six obtained in a distance of 33 inches.

Sixth turn
Ashi managed to remove almost all threats but one tac squad was near one of his objective. he managed to delay and screen it so in the end of the turn hell boy had one unit at 3 and a half inches while ashi was at 2 and a  half inches by one inch margin was decided that Ashi won the battle.

overall a great afternoon and as more troop choices are introduced more we like the game.

kerep tuned as we are getting better everytime.

Action Report

Ok after a long drought I finally got to play with Ashi, Hellboy and one of Hellboy friends.

We got together early as usual in Wendys Z13 and more to our chagrin have found that it is empty on Saturdays while full on Sundays (maybe because it is near of a pedestrian route on Sundays).

Ashi managed to get a 3.5  x 6 feet table that we used and is more comfortable to play with.

we got 2 games with Ashi and Hellboy and his friend 1.  in the first one we played annihilation at aprox 1000 points using SM as proxies for Necrons It was a great game where I managed to get more skilled at loosing err fighting  (my bad)  it was a good game but nos as good as the last objective game were every one had a better and hair pitched battle. well at least the ork won as always for they never lose.

After that game we rearranged 2 AOBR forces with minimal changes (like  2 assault units in one SM army instead f Terminators and bikers instead of Defkoptas in one of  the ork amies)the games were a lot of fun and for the first time ever I managed to actually won a game. and it can be the precursor to a 1500 game that I would like to play the weekend after the next one.
Before I forgot Hellboy learn that unlike Ork Nob Bikers SM bikers are not made to be assaulting large Ork Mobs. Sadly i can post apicture for I didnt take it but sufice to say that 3 bikes were sourrounded by more that 30 orks... It was ugly I had 49 dice and couldnt roll all hits with them(even thought he valiantly managed to save a lot of wounds).
ugly indeed.

Here one last picture:

The third comming

for the orks since this Sunday game was great, in fact that I didn't take as many pictures as a proper battle report, in the end it was up to a dice roll who won  and for an instant I was sure the orks (Ashi's cousin and me) had won but alas it was not to be because the dice allowed another turn, but this time the fight was a proper one.

one of the highlights were the nobz bike rules but they suffer from 2 thing like when the owner doesn't have a proper number of models and loosing one is enough to force a morale check WICH IS BAD ir when the owner don't read the proper rulez and don't use the full optiosns for them.

The other were the  Defkoptas that made a lot of damage, until a bad move choice leave them in a bad position and therefore were punished.

at last I apologize for not taking more pictures but the game was so fun.

This Sunday Game adquired experience.

Ok. we played this sunday on a mall store that sells Magic the gathering  (ah memories of times past by),
The game will entertaining wasnt as fun as the previous 2 times, but we gained a lot of experience.
- First: we made the mistake of using a too narrow table that dint allowed for lateral movement and the Orks were too an easy target enviroment because of that.
- Second: we didn't measure deployment distances and learned the hard way that it is really important, because we expended 4 turns to start getting into close combat range.
-Third: we need more terrain to help the orks that died in droves to missile fire that shouldnt have been. but that is related to point 1 and 2.
- Fourth: we are finally getting the hang of it because even when we played more points (1400) the game lasted only 3 hours.

the only sad issue was that Reingard lost 3 Orks, so we will be more carefull next time.

here are some pictures in no particular order:

Space Marines vs Orks.

We gathered for a second round this sunday with Reingard, Ashi theirt cousin and  a newcomer Hellboy.

this time I couldn't play but at least I'm happy with my orks since the won another time  this time none emerged alive from the battle and the Space marines had varely suffered some loses.

as Ashi pointed in a comment we need to start really learning the rules since even when the game went faster we still are not using terrain and we made another set of mistakes.

after finally getting a pair of tables  we arranged armies as follows:
Ashi and his cousing used the SM while hellboy and reingard used the Orks.

both armies deployed in a straight line
Ashi and his cousing decided to hold the line and get some time shooting  Orks,
the orks went first but didnt seized the oportunity in the end they ran all their units for 2 turns. before being in assault range.

the interesting pint in the game came when the 2 dreads clashed where the SM dread managed to inmobiliced the Ork dread but in return was destrroyed leaving a fixed weapon platarform.

here was the begining of the end. from here it was just a matter of time before the assalult.

In short a magnificent afternoon with lots of spectactors interested in the game. next time I hope we have some terrain and more painted orks since they are so few points per mini that we havent used all my space marines but more thant used my orks.

My First Ever Battle Report.

Last weekend I agreed with Reingard a local follower (the first one of many to come I hope),  to get together to play a bit, for both of us it was our first time.

The location was a  Wendy's because neither of us has  a proper place to play yet. ( it will be solved soon I hope),  as battle field we used 2 small tables.

first I played against Reingard Brother I used my orks :
the AoBR warboss I recently finished painting, the unpainted  Nobs
the Helichoppa and the 2 unpainted  def kopta
the Deff Dread I scratch build
and 32 Ork boys I had painted since 2000.

He used the Ultramarines I had since the same date in the same list as the AoBR panfletb ubut using my models.

Since we didn't have played before we didnt use terrain and a larger table setup

the game is was a blast even thought a lot of mistakes were done as using WS instead of BS for the first round of turns.

In the end the Orks won a resounding victory for further proof look at the picture where the mighty def dread managed to close on the SM Dread and later kill him.

by that time you can  see  that 70% of the ork army was eliminated and 75% of the SM army was intact. next turn only the dread remained.

After that the next game was between them while I watched but was unable to take more pictures due to lack of space. a note worth taking was that while the warboss was unstoppable, eliminated 4 terminators, the space marine captain only rolled ones or sixes but in the worst moments. there the defkopta  proved better and managed to kill 6 Space marines  from the tac squad.

to put it  simple  a wonderfull night but next time I hope to have ready more  units.
